Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost?

The amount that we charge is based on the size (i.e. cubic meters) of the cargo that you are shipping. Please get in contact with our office with the dimensions of the cargo and we will be more than happy to quote you for your shipment. When the cargo arrives at our depot, we will remeasure the package and adjust the price if we feel it is necessary.

Is there a minimum charge?

Yes. In order to cover freight, handling and documentation charges we have a very low minimum charge to make sure that everything is covered.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes. Even though we specialise in shipping to Caribbean, we can and do ship to practically any location in the world. We offer a service that is identical to our Caribbean service, including small shipments of personal effects, vehicles, and customers wishing to relocate.

Do you have a sailing schedule?

Yes. Please click here to see our latest sailing schedule for your shipping requirements.

Are arrival times guaranteed?

No. It is impossible for any shipping company to guarantee arrival times, so any companies that tell you this are not telling you the truth.

JP RAM will do everything that they can to make sure that your cargo arrives according to our sailing schedule, as detailed on the website, but we cannot control factors that are beyond our control that may affect the arrival time.

We advise any customers who need to ensure that their cargo arrives by a certain deadline, to ship their items earlier to minimise the risk of missing a deadline in case of delays.  Delays are more likely to occur during the peak season, which is from the end of October until the middle of December, so we ask customers to bear this in mind when shipping any cargo that is time sensitive.

What about payment for the shipping charges?

Any ocean freight charges are normally payable at the time of booking, but any charges that occur at the final destination are the responsibility of the consignee/receiver. In order to avoid any delays and unnecessary storage charges, we advise all customers that they pay the freight charges at the time of booking.

Can I pay by credit or debit card?

Yes. Debit cards and all major credit cards are accepted as payment from customers for their shipping.

Is there an office at the destination I can contact?

Yes. JP RAM Shipping has an agent at every location that it ships to. Our agents can advise or assist customers with; local customs clearance procedures and local charges. They can also arrange to send your cargo onto an inland address, if you wish to do so.

I am relocating to a different country; will you be able to advise me on the best option?

Yes. JP Shipping are able to advise you on the best method for shipping your cargo as safely and cost effectively as possible. For ‘full load’ containers, JP Shipping will provide you with free packaging to repack your household items and advise you on insurance. If you require us to send someone out to visit you at your home, then JP Shipping are usually able to do this, as well as advising you without any obligation.

Can you collect my cargo from me?

Yes. We can collect your cargo from wherever you need us to, provided that it is packaged and addressed adequately to ensure that no damage occurs during transit.

Can I deliver my cargo to you?

Yes. You can deliver your cargo straight to our warehouse no less than 48 hours prior to the closing date. We ask that customers contact our office before delivering to the warehouse so that we can make a booking and ensure that there is a space reserved in the container for your cargo – visit our Contact Us page.

Where do I deliver my cargo to in the UK?

Before you deliver your cargo to our warehouse, please get in contact with our office either by calling us on 02074 760154 or emailing Once you’ve done one of these, you can deliver your cargo to:

JP RAM Shipping
Unit 14
Lamson Road
RM13 9YY

Opening times: Monday – Friday 08:30 – 16:30

Who is responsible for packing and marking my cargo?

You are. As the shipper, you are responsible for making sure that your cargo is adequately packed and addressed for shipment. Please remember that cargo can sometimes hit rough weather during transit and potential rough handling at destination warehouses which JP RAM has no control over.

You should always make sure that you mark the address of the consignee clearly on each package. You should beware that some destination countries will fine the consignee if the package is addressed incorrectly.

Do you provide packaging services?

Yes. We can deliver a choice of packaging materials to your doorstep for a small charge, which you can use to pack up your cargo immediately, while your driver waits (this service is not available online), or you can choose to have someone return to collect your cargo at a later date.

Do you provide insurance?

Yes. We provide a range of different insurance solutions for shipment to any destination. You can get in contact with our Newport or London offices to chat to one of our team members about your options for insurance.

If you wish to insure a small package, such as a barrel, we can provide insurance for the total loss of a package up to the value of £400. You would only be able to make a claim if the package and its entire contents were lost. You would not be able to claim for loss/damage to individual items in the barrel.

You should beware that insurance companies will not entertain claims for any items that are missing from remotely pack cargo, as it is virtually impossible to prove what items were loaded in the first place or what their value is. If you wish to insure valuable items, please do the following:

  • Have the item packed professionally for shipping
  • Declare the value of the item, preferably backed up with a commercial invoice at the time of booking
  • Sign the insurance documents prior to your cargo being delivered to our warehouse

Do you a provide packing and/or wrapping services?

Yes. If you have a large shipment and you would like some help with professional packing, we may be able to assist. Please contact our office to enquire.

Can you ship cars?

Yes. Cars can be professionally packed into freight containers.

Every care is taken when loading cars to ensure that they are not damaged in handling or transit. Unlike some companies, we do not load cargo in, on top of, under or around your car as well as offering competitive freight rates based on the size of your vehicle.

They are some import restrictions for some islands, so please contact the relevant High Commission before shipping to ask for advice. All vehicles are checked over by the police so, prior to shipment you will need to provide a log book.
